Private Lands – NM Unit 34
At nearly 70,000 acres this is our largest ranch in the area and the largest piece of privately managed land in the entire Unit 34. We are proud to say some of our guides have been on this ranch for over 25 years and their family settled this land. Watching as four generations of the family are still here ranching makes this a special hunt for us. Our rancher’s young children look like they might be as into chasing elk as they are into chasing cattle and horses! This ranch spans from 6-8 miles wide in many areas to over 17 miles at its longest. You will not see a quarter of this ranch no matter how hard you hunt. Success rates have been a very strong 90% or better most years. We have limited the number of landowner vouchers we make available here for the past 12 years and it’s paid off well. 280-320 bulls are the norm here, but we kill a number of 320-360+ plus bulls every year. You could see and harvest a 320+ bull on any given day – that’s why this ranch is such a gem. This ranch is made for glassing – pinion and juniper country as far as you can see with large meadows and open hillsides that loaded up with elk all year. We have some lung busting hills, but a lot of the ranch has a nice gentle roll to it.
Lodging for our private land hunts in Unit 34: All early season bow and October ranch hunts will be based from our main tent camp located in Unit 34. The early season hunting is great on the northern and northwestern corners of the ranch. In order to keep drive times down we like to stay at the main camp. Cooks, private tents and hot showers make this the total outback hunting experience, with private lands to hunt all day.
A small cabin will be your home away from home on late season hunts (November, December and January. Its location offers out-the-backdoor hunting all fall and winter and easy access to the rest of the ranch. Our cabin has a shower, a small living room area and 1 bedroom with twin bunks. Meals are organized and prepared by your guides here. You will not forget the guides, hunts or meals on this ranch and the elk well, you’ll be looking at them every day in your trophy room!
